Whidden and Lewis Kitchen

This National Register home in Irvington was originally designed by renowned architects Whidden and Lewis for George Earle Chamberlain, the former governor of Oregon. It is a unique example of shingle-style architecture and has retained much of the original character and layout. The kitchen, however, had been renovated in the 1980’s and stripped of the historic charm the rest of the home embodied.

Gusto Design Studio redesigned the kitchen with a large dine-in island, expansive storage and counterspace and improved connection to the dining room and adjacent outdoor space. With sensitivity to the historic importance of the house, we used proportions and trim profiles from existing original details on the main level to design new windows, cabinets, island and a large opening that seamlessly connects the kitchen and dining room.

I've been working with Gusto Design Studio for about 10 years on multiple projects. Erin and Geno create beautiful designs that I've had the pleasure to bring to life. They are knowledgeable about their craft and always available to work through the details. Their plans are clear and well detailed. They have great client relations, starting as collaborators and ending as friends. I highly recommend their work.
