Hemenway House
This 1954 colonial ranch house was designed by Portland Architect, Roscoe Hemenway. Located in the SW hills, this home has been lovingly cared for in its original form with the exception of the kitchen and bathrooms, which had been modernized in the 1980's with fluorescent lights and melamine cabinets.
The clients hired Gusto to design a beautiful, hard-working kitchen designed for serious cooking and entertaining, and to design an updated guest bathroom and primary bedroom suite on the main level.
In the kitchen, the large, custom, walnut island serves as the work and entertaining heart of the space. The island, along with the new 12-foot-wide slider door, bridges between the kitchen and the new heated cabana that leads to the pool, connecting the indoor spaces to outdoors, for year-round enjoyment.
In the guest bath and primary bedroom suite we updated fixtures and finishes, reworked the primary bedroom ensuite closet to include custom walnut cabinets and a walk-in closet, and we added another 12-foot-wide slider door to the pool deck from the bedroom, creating a spa-like retreat in the primary suite.
