Forest Park Craftsman
This busy family of five loves to celebrate family, music, diversity and color. After many years living in their home, they were ready to update their kitchen and finish their basement in order to create the ultimate family hangout. Gusto Design Studio designed an addition to the back of the house, adding French doors, large windows and a hexagonal bay that flood the kitchen with light and opens the house up to the backyard. The new kitchen includes a large dine-in island buffet, baking station and loads of full-height storage.
The family wanted a 1970’s den vibe in the formerly unfinished basement. Gusto designed a fir-paneled room for family game nights, movie marathons and karaoke parties, complete with a wet bar and gas stove. Inspired by the colors of the New York City subway, the owner selected and laid out the glass accent tiles in the basement herself and worked closely with a local artist to select the paint colors throughout the house, creating an immersive color experience on all levels.
I've loved working with Gusto! They are such great collaborators, which is key when you're working on an old house with who-knows-what surprises hiding inside the walls. They understood my wishes and goals and were always willing to put in the work to figure out solutions. My kitchen and basement are a dream come true and I only wish I'd been able to start on them sooner! I'm sure I'll be calling them for help with another project soon.
